The rise of the AI and Cloud data centre.
The data center is not a new concept. The computing and internet era has created massive enterprise server farms where corporations have stored and protected their proprietary business information. What is new is the rapid conversion from enterprise to cloud, from linear to parallel and from programming to machine learning/AI. This change is disrupting both the processing and the memory markets.
Data center growth
The semiconductor content in the data center is dominated by memory growth. Where data storage was considered a cost in the traditional enterprise data center it is the basis of business models in the cloud data center. Cloud companies are not only storing data, they are trying to extract new insights and learning from the data they can sell to others. This machine learning revolution requires parallel processing that is benefiting companies like Nvidia.
